Bernie Marsden plays Red House!!

Bernie Marsden first caught my attention back in 1977 when played guitar on the legendary Paice Ashton Lord album. I was at PAL's London concert at the Rainbow Theatre and Bernie's playing and singing impressed me a lot especially when he sang the lead vocal on a cover of James Taylor's Steamroller Blues. I was a huge Coverdale fan so when one year later Bernie co-founded Whitesake with DC I was thrilled! Bernie became one of the guitar players and musicians who influenced my playing and my music in a major way. I have followed his work to the present day.

Amazing Clapton at Crossroads Guitar Fest. 2010

One of the best live versions of I Shot The Sherriff ever by Eric. The guitar solo which starts at 5:20 goes on till the end of the song at 8:35. This 3 minute solo includes some of EC's best playing ever.

Frank Zappa's solo on Yo Mama

FZ is at his most inspired here. Recorded live in 1978, it's 8 minutes and 33 seconds of some of the most beautiful guitar improvisation ever! Makes me cry every time. From the 6 minute mark onwards Frank plays what is probably the most soulful blues guitar I have ever heard!

Tony Ashton: First my musical hero and later a friend.

Tony Ashton never got the recognition he deserves. While he did have one big hit with Ashton Gardner and Dyke's "Resurrection Shuffle" in 1971, he remained unknown to the general public. His friendship with Jon Lord of Deep Purple with whom he recorded two albums gave him some notoriety with Deep Purple fans. I discovered his music when I was 11 and he became my musical hero. I was lucky enough to meet him in 1996 and we became friends. I attended the private charity event at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in 1990 which was to raise money for his cancer treatment and you can atually see me in the dvd that was later released of the music portion of the evening. Unfortunately the treatment was not successful and he died 6 months later. See my pictures below with him in 1996 in Cyprus and in 2000 at Abbey Road Studios in London. Last year I made a photo tribute video with his song Travellin Javelin as the soundtrack. Here it is:
